On 9th July, Mark Collar, one of our Principal Consultants, will be presenting in the Valuing and Enabling Restoration session at ReMeMaRe 2025 in Scarborough Spa.

The event, which is also being streamed digitally, will bring together restoration practitioners, government bodies, environmental NGOs, industry and businesses with a shared vision to restore our estuarine, coastal, and marine environment. It’s an energetic space to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments in coastal restoration science, practice and policy.

Mark will be sharing his expertise in revealing the economic value of restoration, drawing from his work on Sea the Value programme alongside Professor Nicola Beaumont at Plymouth Marine Laboratory. They will demonstrate the practical benefits and challenges in combining multi-disciplinary evidence in economic valuation methods and the evidence’s significance for decision-making, including investment into marine ecosystems.

Learn more about the conference and how to register on the Ocean & Coastal Futures website.

Volunteering at Freightliners Farm in Islington

Shovelling more than just dirt!

For this year’s summer volunteer day, we took inspiration from our farmer clients and participated in a day of caring for the animals and plants at Freightliners Farm in Islington.

We were directed by the city farm’s staff on how to feed the animals, make offcuts from plants and organise a plant shop, build fencing, and shovel newly minted soil. We enjoyed learning the familial politics of the geese (“Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Islington, where we lay our eggs") and will remember fondly the animals we fed and named.

If you are in the area, we highly recommend a visit – either to see the animals or even volunteer yourself. You can organise your own volunteer day through the Freightliners Farm website.

We’ve launched a new page on our website showcasing how our expertise can support clients in a variety of sectors, with a range of new project examples.

This page demonstrates the breadth of eftec’s experience and the applicability of our work across different industries and organisations of all types and scales. For each sector we work in, we include a brief description of the services we offer: from understanding and measuring economic value, to disclosing impacts and dependencies, to appraising investment and decision options. Whether it’s land use in the UK or managing chemicals use in global supply chains, our work supports better decision-making for people and nature.

You can explore the full range of sectors and project examples here. Notable new project additions include our analysis of the biodiversity net gain (BNG) market in England, designing a tool to analyse the environmental impact of new housing developments, and supporting Arauco, a Chilean forestry company with natural capital accounting to pioneer internationally-acclaimed action on biodiversity.
